Some of my earliest childhood memories are of the amazing childcare center, preschool, and after-school program I attended. The center was operated by the YMCA and was located on the campus of Keene State College in New Hampshire. I have four core memories from those early years:
1) Snakes lay eggs, and they eat eggs too, it’s gross,
2) Play-Dough is easy to make, it smells great, but tastes disgusting,
3) People go to college when they are older and study all kinds of things, even art, music, or history, and
4) College campuses are magical places.
The privilege I was given to attend this program was one of the most profound experiences that shaped who I am. My family was largely first-generation Americans and at that time, no adult I knew had gone to college. The people I saw around me every day were happy, interesting, and carefree. Professors would come visit to talk to us and show us things they taught. I have carried a passion for Early Childhood Education, Colleges & Universities, and the YMCA my whole life.
Watching Stars Academy’s first Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) Graduation this week, I cannot believe how blessed I am to have had a part in getting this center off the ground. HUGE congratulations to the little ones starting their kindergarten journey and to the parents who prioritized their children’s education and experience. Thank you to the amazing teachers and support team who got this first class over the finish line!
This is just the beginning for Stars Academy. We have big goals, and we believe whole-heartedly that Early Childhood Education is the foundation for developing a life-long love of learning.
